An inclusive acronym that represents a spectrum of sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. Here’s a clear, parent-friendly breakdown:

  • 2S – Two-Spirit — A term used by some Indigenous peoples to describe a person who embodies both masculine and feminine spirits. It is cultural and spiritual, not just a gender identity.
  • L – Lesbian — A woman who is emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to other women.
  • G – Gay — A person who is emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to people of the same gender (often used for men).
  • B – Bisexual — A person attracted to more than one gender.
  • T – Transgender — A person whose gender identity differs from the sex assigned at birth.
  • Q – Queer or Questioning — Queer is an umbrella term for diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Questioning refers to someone exploring or unsure of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • I – Intersex — A person born with physical sex characteristics that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female bodies.
  • A – Asexual (or sometimes Ally) — Asexual refers to someone who experiences little or no sexual attraction. In some contexts, it can also mean Ally (someone who supports the community).

Why it’s used: The longer acronym emphasizes inclusion, cultural respect (especially for Indigenous identities), and recognition of identities that have historically been overlooked.
